I've received the following letter - do we have an ASWMC rep?
ASWMC ANNUAL AWARDS PRESENTATION 3RD FEBRUARY 2008
This is a reminder that our Awards Presentation will take place at the Hartnoll House Hotel at Bolham, near Tiverton, commencing 2.15pm on Sunday 3rd February 2008.
The Association would love to see most of the member clubs represented, and we look forward to meeting you there.
As of 1st January 2008, I am now the ASWMC General Secretary, (address, email and telephone number as above), and all correspondence should now be directed to me, and not as stated in the MSA Year Book.
Invoices for renewal of your club’s membership for 2008 have recently been sent out, hopefully to your club’s latest correct address. If you have not received an invoice, then please let me know.
The new ASWMC Executive Committee is working hard to give you the clubs, and your members, every assistance in 2008, and we look forward to a successful year together.
Yours sincerely,
Howard West

There's more. Anyone interested? We didn't attend last year
Dear Club Representative
Please find the following attached to this email.
Minutes of AGM of 21st October 2007
Agenda for AGM , Council & Dates Meetings due to be held on 19th October 2008 at 2.30pm.
The minutes of the Council Meeting held on 9th March 2008, were distributed to everyone in March.
Simon Fowler, MSA Competitions & Clubs Manager and Michael Duncan, MSA Stewards Administrator, will both be in attendance at the AGM and Council Meeting, and a good turnout from member clubs is expected, especially as the Dates Meeting follows the Council Meeting.
There is a lot to discuss.
If you have any proposals for amendments to the ASWMC 2008 Yearbook Rules, then these should be submitted to me by the 15th September 2008, so that I can circulate these to all clubs.
Regards
Howard West
General Secretary

PP’s PITSTOP..............
I have to begin with an apology!
Upon my appointment last October I gave an undertaking that
communication to both Championship contenders and member
clubs alike, would be improved. Whilst the Championship
Contenders are now being provided with more regular and comprehensive updates from their
respective co-ordinators, member clubs have received nothing. This is the first attempt at
such a communication and an attempt to correct matters since the resignation of our Newsletter
Editor.
We now need a new Newsletter Editor and nominations, will be welcomed in time for the
AGM in October. If there is anyone in your Club who feels that he or she can devote some
time to assist in the compilation of a Newsletter to member Clubs, no more than four times
a year we would like to hear from them. Much of the content will be written by various
members of the Executive, who will always be on hand to give assistance.
PAUL PARKER
Chairman
GO MOTORSPORT CAMPAIGN
The MSA has begun an initiative to try and persuade more motorsport enthusiasts to become
involved in our sport. There are three strands to it encouraging involvement as a competitor,
a volunteer official, or simply as a spectator. This is likely to be an ongoing campaign
to recruit more people into the sport. You as a Club need to play your part because
enquiries will be directed to your Club if you have registered your interest and have someone
in your Club who can quickly deal with any enquiries.
Whilst the participation by member clubs of the ASWMC is, so far, above average, this will
be the best opportunity your Club will have to recruit new members, with the MSA paying
for the campaign!
Therefore you need to register your Clubs’ interest at www.gomotorsport.net as soon as
possible.

WEST’S WANDERINGS.................

19th October, at the Hartnoll House Hotel, near Tiverton, starting at 2.30pm. We will be
joined by Simon Fowler, MSA Competitions and Club Manager, and Michael Duncan, who
works at the MSA as the Stewards Administrator, who will inform us of any of the latest
developments proposed by the MSA, both are also happy to answer any questions that you
may have. Remember if you want your club’s voice to be heard then it is important that your
Club is represented.

ROAD RALLY ORGANISERS MEETING
In July, many of the ASWMC Road Rally Organisers, met with some of the ASWMC
Executive and Route Liaison Officers, to discuss the future co-operation between the organisers
and possible rule changes for 2009. Minutes of that meeting are being sent to all
those who attended plus all member clubs.
Any proposed rule changes will be advised to all member clubs before they can be put to the
AGM and voted on.
PROTECTION OF MOTORSPORT VENUES
As you may have seen in Motorsports Now, on page 3, from 13th August on page, or some of
you may have received an email on the subject. It is important that your Club and it’s
members sign a petition for the following:
To safeguard events taking place at venues threatened by environmental
legislation instigated by residents who have moved to already existing venues,
and now complain about noise and traffic.
To sign the petition you should visit: (http://)petitions.pm.gov.uk/livewithit
CHAMPIONSHIP NEWS
SPEED: You will all have read about or received a letter from the MSA, as organisers,
detailing the proposed changes to I 68, in particular the Roadging Series and Roadgoing
Specialist Production Cars. This will make them comply with the whole of the Blue Book
rules from I.70 to I.81. The one that will affect ASWMC Competitors the most is I.79
where List 1A Tyres are required.
As you can imagine this has led to some unhappy competitors............ To rectify this every
competitor that it affects has been written to and attached is a copy of what has been sent
out with their newsletter. I would urge you to lobby the MSA as this will affect YOUR
events. Please copy all correspondence that you send to the MSA to Howard West, this way
we can monitor the strength of feeling from both the members and member Clubs alike.

PROPOSED CHANGES OF RULES
The MSA has announced changes to MSA Blue Book Regulation I.68. These will come
into effect from 1.1.2010 if ratified. They will make the categories, shown in the Blue
Book, mandatory. It will mean that all the rules in the Blue Book, for each category, will
similarly become mandatory.
So far these rule changes have been only approved by Motor Sports Council. They cannot
become implemented until Motor Sports Council ratifies that approval. So between
now and then we have the opportunity of having our say.
They should have little impact upon our Sprint & Hillclimb championship rules apart from
one significant area – TYRES. Those in the Roadgoing classes will be obliged to use
tyres from List 1A (I.79), rather than the tyres in widespread use in the ASWMC area
presently. This will affect every event and every championship in the country.
Our Chairman, Paul Parker, is attempting to have the rule in I.79 changed. His efforts in
the MSA Sprint & Hillclimb sub committee, Speed Events & Regional Committees haven't
yet been successful.
We are not alone in this. There are very many championships throughout the country
which presently use the phrase “Road Legal” or “List 1A or List1B” in the tyre regulations
in some or all of their roadgoing classes.
Meanwhile if you want to continue using the tyres you do presently you should make your
feelings known NOW by writing to Cheryl Lynch, the Speed Executive at the MSA. If you
give a reasoned argument why the ASWMC rules are better than “List1A” then we might
be successful in getting the existing rule I.79 changed to suit our requirements.
We must emphasize that you use a reasoned argument. Don’t simply “slag off the MSA” it
is likely that your letter will be ignored. In addition please ensure all your fellow competitors
also write in. It will be the strength of feeling which will succeed in the end.
Please copy your letter/or email to Howard West, ASWMC General Secretary
(howardw@aswmc.com) so that we can monitor the strength of feeling in the ASWMC.
